Things that Irk Me: Why can’t people accept responsibility?
So I’m super pissed off right now, mostly because I’ve been up since 3am because I intern in New York City, but also because people are dumb fucks and it’s really annoying.
I almost just got in a car accident driving home from the train station. As in, I hit the breaks so hard they started pulsing, I had to swerve out of the way, and I was inches away from colliding with this car. Let me add, by the way, that I 100% had the right of way. Fortunately, I was able to stop at the last second and then I let the guy who almost hit me go first.
This isn’t what bothers me. Accidents happen, people don’t pay attention for a split second, whatever. It happens. What does bother me though is when somebody makes a mistake like this and yet they LOOK AT YOU LIKE IT’S YOUR FAULT. False. I’m sorry sir, that just because I’m a college student and I look like I’m 16 does NOT mean that this is automatically my fault. I had the right of way and you weren’t paying fucking attention. This has happened to me on a few occasions, and it’s so annoying because just because older folks forget their intersection etiquette rules does not mean that they can blame me when they almost hit me. I’ve been in a few situations where I’ve almost hit someone out of my own fault, and I instantly mouth “Sorry!” to the person and we both move on. Is that so hard? If you fuck up, just own up to it, because I’m not going to be apologetic to you when you did something against me.
This happens in more than just driving, by the way. One of my roommates once stopped talking to me for a day because I caught her in my room with the guy she’s been hooking up with. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t go in my own room?
Seriously, just own up to your own shit.
