Just an Observation: What’s wrong with mainstream?
This one’s just for you Greg <3 Haha.
In the age of the hipster, I’ve noticed that people are super against anything mainstream. Like omg, I loved Five for Fighting long before “A Hundred Years to Live.” Rain boots? Wow that was totally MY thing like three years ago. So now that it is mainstream, I REFUSE TO WEAR THEM.
Why? When did it become such a problem for something to become popular? In terms of music, I don’t understand why any true fan of a band wouldn’t be happy for their success. Are there any bands out there that really don’t have dreams of making it big time? So if that’s the case, why don’t people just celebrate their success? As for other trends, why does it matter if other people pick up on a trend you picked up on sooner? You should just pat yourself on the back for the reassurance that you have some style.
The mainstream is what runs this country. We run on majority vote, as in what’s most favorable to the most amount of people. Imagine if, say George Washington decided to not lead the Revolutionary War because he was one of the founding fathers and the revolution became “too mainstream” for his taste. That’s just stupid.
We all have such a desire to appear trendier and better than the regular ol’ crowd, but the fact is, we ARE the crowd. No matter how you look at it. So stop pretending you’re better than everyone else and just like stuff for the sake of liking it.
